Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) is a cornerstone of patient safety in any healthcare setting,
including dental clinics. With the increasing emphasis on maintaining high standards, it’s important
to reflect on the most common areas where practices may fall short. There are consistent areas where
deficiencies tend to occur. These deficiencies, if unaddressed, can pose significant risks not only to
patient safety but also to the safety of staff and the overall operation of the practice.
This module will take an in-depth look at the top 10 most frequently observed IPAC deficiencies that have come
to light through auditing. These are areas where compliance with best practices as outlined by regulatory bodies
such as the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO), the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO),
and Public Health Ontario (PHO) is essential.
This module will also provide actionable insights and practical steps to ensure clinics are aligned with
the current IPAC guidelines. A broad range of topics will be covered, from general IPAC knowledge to specific
procedures like dental unit waterline management and sterilization protocols.
