A PRACTICAL APPROACH TO ORAL SURGERY
This 2 day didactic and hands-on program is for the GP who wants to improve their fundamental surgical skill set. Participants will be able to experience a wide variety of surgical procedures typically seen in a GP office, but the emphasis will be on developing effective clinical skills in flaps, suturing and extractions.
This course is limited attendance with a low instructor to student ratio and will take place in our simulation lab where you will learn on phantom heads, special dental models, and pig mandibles.
Simulation Lab — Surgical Fundamentals
- Flap design
- Suturing including interrupted, continuous locking and figure-of-eight techniques
- Biopsy techniques
- Simple extractions using forceps and elevators
- Surgical extractions with bone and soft tissue-sparing approaches
Simulation Lab — Advanced Surgical Procedures
- Impactions including lower mesio-angular and horizontal impactions
- Root removal
- Incision and drainage with drain placement
- Tongue and lip tie revision
- Socket preservation and basic bone grafting
Simulation Lab — Grafting & Implant Introduction
- Sinus bump / Summers procedure
- Connective tissue grafting
- Introduction to implant placement using guided and freehand techniques
- Practical application of surgical approaches designed to minimize tissue trauma
- Recognition and management of surgical complications
Hands-on Training Environment
- Limited attendance with a low instructor-to-student ratio.
- Training takes place in the Genesis simulation lab.
- Participants work on phantom heads, special dental models and pig mandibles.
- The program is designed around surgical procedures commonly encountered in general dental practice.
Cancellation Policy
Genesis Continuing Dental Education reserves the right to cancel any course at any time. In such cases, a full refund will be issued to each participant. Reimbursement will not be provided for any other expenses associated with registration. Costs incurred for travel and hotel accommodations remain the responsibility of each participant.
Participants who cancel more than 60 days prior to the course start date will receive a full refund. Participants who cancel less than 60 days but more than 30 days prior to the course start date are entitled to a refund minus an administrative fee of $100 for courses with tuition of more than $1000 or $50 for courses with tuition less than $1000.
Participants who cancel less than 30 days prior to the course start date are not entitled to a refund. All course cancellation requests must be sent in writing to courses@genesiseducation.ca.
