Details:

This is one of the most comprehensive endodontic lecture/workshop training programs for GPs in the country. This course is tailored for novice and experienced general dentists with comprehensive hands-on training. The program is full of honest tips, tricks and advice aimed at helping dentists perform better root canals, with less stress and more efficiency. Topics will include endo emergencies, diagnosis, anaesthesia, access preparations, safer and faster instrumentation, obturation, pain and infection management, single visit endo, and restoring endo treated teeth.

DAY ONE – EVENING LECTURE:

• Endodontic diagnosis, including identifying symptoms of non-endo origin. and how to avoid unnecessary root canals or treating the wrong tooth.
• Management of endo emergencies.
• Treatment planning (endo vs. retreatment vs. surgery vs. implants).
• Anaesthesia in endodontics, including hot teeth.
• Canal/working-length determination with radiographs and apex locators.

WORKSHOP – ENDO ACCESS:

• Extracted and mounted teeth will be provided for participants to endodontically access, with very close supervision. Participants will later instrument safely irrigate and obturate their accessed teeth and radiograph them along the way for assessment.
• Ideal access preparations.
• How to locate MB2 canals.
• Prevention of perforations during access preparations.
• Workshop review, and question and answer period for the group.

DAY TWO – MORNING LECTURE:

• Ideal hand instrumentation with stainless steel files and glide path preparation (especially of calcified and curved canals).
• NiTi file instrumentation protocols (rotary and reciprocating).
• How to instrument more efficiently.
• Prevention and management of instrumentation mishaps (ledging and blocking of canals and file separation).
• Proper use of electronic apex locators.
• Disinfection of root canal system with various intra-canal meds, sonics and ultrasonics.
• Protocols for obturation (warm vertical and carrier-based).
• Obturating more efficiently, predictably and in 3-dimensions.

DAY TWO – AFTERNOON WORKSHOP (INSTRUMENTATION):

• Learn how to properly use hand stainless steel files, glidepath NiTi files,and rotary and reciprocating NiTi file systems.
• Negotiate canals (including calcified and curved canals).
• Learn about efficient four-handed endodontics by means of chairside exercises.
• Workshop review, and question and answer period for the group.

DAY THREE – MORNING WORKSHOP (IRRIGATION & OBTURATION):

• Perform safe, passive canal irrigant activation.
• Learn how to perform warm vertical / downpack obturations.
• Learn how to obturate with carrier-based systems.
• Learn protocols for singles-visit root canals.
• Workshop review, and question and answer period for the group.

DAY THREE – AFTERNOON LECTURE:

• One vs. two appointment root canals (when, how and why).
• The significance of magnification (loupes and microscopes) in endodontics, and how to incorporate them into their practice.
• Restoring endo-treated teeth, including the use of posts and crowns.
• How to select the instruments that suit your style of practice (ie: files, obturators, endo motors, apex locators…).
• Return on investment of various endodontic instruments.

DAY FOUR – MORNING LECTURE:

• Radiographic review and assessment of participants’ instrumented and obturated teeth, to highlight reasons for endo failure/success.
• Post-op pain and infection management (anaelgesics and antibiotics).
• Documentation / record keeping and informed consent.
• Prevention and management of patient complaints.
• The role of 3D/CBCT imaging in endodontics.
• Common reasons for endodontic failures.
• Recap of entire program and question and answer period.

NOTES ABOUT WORKSHOP:

• Under very close supervision, all workshop exercises will have participants trained on a variety of protocols, Instrumentation, safe irrigation and obturation systems.
• Participants DO NOT need to bring extracted teeth. At least Four (4) extracted and mounted teeth will be provided to all participants.
• Participants are welcome to bring radiographs of their endodontic cases for a private one-on-one review and discussion with Dr. Haas.

Cancellation policy

Genesis Continuing Dental Education reserves the right to cancel any course at any time. In such cases, a full refund will be issued to each participant. Reimbursement will not be provided for any other expenses associated with registration.  Costs incurred for travel and hotel accommodations remain the responsibility of each participant. Participants who cancel more than 60 days prior to the course start date will receive a full refund. Participants who cancel less than 60 days but more than 30 days prior to the course start date are entitled to a refund minus an administrative fee of $100 for courses with tuition of more than $1000 or $50 for courses with tuition less than $1000. Participants who cancel less than 30 days prior to the course start date are not entitled to a refund. All course cancellation requests must be sent in writing to courses@genesiseducation.ca.
