CORE 1 – Osseointegration: Understanding factors that influence bone growth and remodelling around implants

Osseointegration describes the process by which the surface of a load-bearing prosthesis becomes both structurally and functionally connected to the surrounding bone. This dynamic, organized process at the tissue interface is subject to factors that modulate bone healing and remodelling determining prosthesis longevity, function and esthetics. Understanding the role of local and systemic modifiers in this complex process can be crucial in guiding clinical decision making.
This course will explore the role of medications, systemic diseases, patient habits, local anatomy as well as prosthetic mechanics and functional dynamics through a review and assessment of the available literature.
